On July 22, 2025, project partner Isle Utilities hosted the 2nd Innovation Workshop, which reviewed progress on liquid stream treatment technologies including Floating Treatment Wetlands (FTW), Aerated Vertical-Flow Treatment Wetlands with Geopolymers (GPs-AVTW), and Electroactive Biofilm-based Treatment Wetlands (EAB-TW). The workshop also introduced LIFE GREEN ADAPT’s bio-technosoils—designed to stabilize landfill surfaces, reduce erosion, and support native plant growth—and showcased a vulnerability assessment tool developed by partner FACTOR to guide climate-resilient waste infrastructure planning.
Bringing together experts from waste management, research, engineering, and investment, the Innovation Board provided valuable feedback and identified clear opportunities for scaling and replicating these innovations. An interactive survey during the workshop showed strong market interest, especially for the liquid stream treatment technologies, followed by bio-technosoils and the vulnerability tool.
The bio-technosoils are proving effective in capping landfill sites, improving soil quality, reducing erosion, and boosting local biodiversity. Workshop discussions highlighted their potential use in methane oxidation layers and in reducing odours and leachate build-up by improving water absorption.
This workshop marks a key step forward in LIFE GREEN ADAPT’s mission to create sustainable, climate-resilient waste management solutions that can be adopted widely across Europe
