On 17 June 2025, LIFE GREEN ADAPT participated in the “Circular Economy Innovation for Sustainable Waste Effluents” webinar during EU Green Week. The event focused on innovative solutions and challenges in waste management, emphasizing the transformation of waste into resources for a sustainable future.
Álvaro Silva Teira presented LIFE GREEN ADAPT’S nature-based solutions for landfill management, highlighting strategies to mitigate climate change impacts on landfills.
This included two main approaches: waterproofing landfills with biotechnosoils to reduce water percolation and refresh temperatures during high heat episodes, and treating leachate using nature-based solutions like floating wetlands (FTW), geopolymers aerated treatment (GP-ATW) and innovative electroactive wetlands (EAW). These innovations aim to mitigate climate change impacts on landfills, such as increased leachates from heavy rains and risks of spontaneous wildfires.
