LIFE GREEN ADAPT Project

In November 2023 and 2024, Carlos Arias of Aarhus Universitet (AU) delivered polluted water management courses, as well as a PhD course in December 2025, at the Chinese Academy of Science. These courses focused on the value of liquid stream treatment technologies innovated within the framework of the LIFE GREEN ADAPT project, with particular emphasis on electroactive treatment wetlands for contaminant removal and pollution reduction in landfill leachates.

Álvaro Silva Teira and Luz Herrero of AIMEN represented LIFE GREEN ADAPT in an event at the Chemical Engineering College of Santiago de Compostela University. The event “Foro de empresas” (Companies forum) was focused on presenting the opportunities and jobs done by chemical engineers in different kind of companies and research centres.

LIFE GREEN ADAPT project coordinator AIMEN partook in an interview with La Voz de Galicia (regional newspaper) and secondary school students for STEM promotion, speaking about the project and its objectives as it nears completion.

LIFE GREEN ADAPT released its 4th Newsletter in November 2025. The publication discussed major achievements of the project to date including technical results, recapped the final project review meeting and 3rd Innovation Workshop, and considered next steps in terms of post-project roadmaps.

Carlos Arias of Aarhus Universitet (AU) delivered a training course to PhD and master’s students, as well as to engineering students at the Technological University of Xi’an in China in November 2025. The content of these courses highlighted technical approaches in the design, implementation and optimization of electroactive treatment wetlands.

From 25-27 November 2025, the online course “From Wastewater to Resources: Circular Solutions for a Climate-Resilient Future” was held in collaboration with UNEP and the UNESCO Chair on Sustainability (UPC). Supported by project partner AU, this course focused on resource recover and reducing greenhouse gas emissions across the wastewater cycle.

Project partner GLOBAL FACTOR hosted an event, alongside Aclima titled “Adaptation of waste infrastructures to climate change” in Bilbao, Spain on 26 November 2025. The session reviewed risk assessment methods aligned with the IPCC and showcased LIFE GREEN ADAPT, including its infrastructure vulnerability assessment tool. Attendees explored climate risks and opportunities, learned about the Basque Government’s NbS strategy, and participated in collaborative brainstorming.

In October 2025, Carlos Arias of Aarhus Universitet held a course at Universitas Muhammadiyah Pontianak in Pontianak, Indonesia about innovative treatment wetlands, including those developed in LIFE GREEN ADAPT to engineering students over the course of 3 sessions.

On 28 October 2025, ISLE hosted the 3rd project Innovation Workshop in A Coruña, Spain. The session reviewed validation and maintenance plans for blue-green infrastructure, and gathered the project’s Innovation Board and external stakeholders from waste, waste management and academia.
